Chapters & SummaryCopy Chapters 00:00 Understanding Love and Sacrifice The speakers explore the different meanings of love and establish that sacrifice is the greatest expression of love. They discuss how the Bible teaches that laying down one's life for others represents ultimate love, and examine the concept of sacrifice in everyday life, emphasizing that true sacrifice must be costly and purposeful.
02:13 Biblical Sacrifices and Drawing Close The group examines various types of biblical offerings and their purposes, explaining that the Hebrew word for sacrifice means 'to draw close.' They discuss how sacrifice serves as an instrument for drawing near to God and provide fasting as a contemporary example of meaningful sacrifice that creates distance from comfort to strengthen faith.
04:21 Motivation Behind Sacrifice Matters The speakers analyze the story of Cain and Abel to demonstrate that God values the motivation and heart behind sacrifice more than the offering itself. They explain how Abel's worship-focused offering was accepted while Cain's self-focused and comparative sacrifice was rejected, revealing that sacrifice must stem from genuine love for God rather than selfish intent.
Transcript [00:05] okay man I love this place the view man [00:09] there's nothing like the Desert View and [00:11] just the Sun and and I love you [00:14] guys it's really amazing place I love it [00:17] yeah you know it's funny how we use the [00:19] word love uh because we use it for [00:22] different ways you know you say I love [00:24] chocolate and moment afterwards you can [00:27] say I love you my wife you know and it's [00:29] basic basically the same word but it's [00:31] very different meaning yeah no for sure [00:33] I mean like when I say I love you to my [00:34] wife it's not quite the same as when I [00:36] say I love you to you guys right that's [00:39] obviously a very important distinction [00:41] uh and just like there's different kinds [00:43] of love there's different depths of love [00:44] as well yeah I mean there is love [00:46] between husband and wife there is love [00:48] between parents and children there is [00:50] love uh Between Brothers there's love [00:52] for your country there is different [00:54] types of Love really yeah but I think I [00:56] believe the greatest expression of Love [00:58] is is SA [01:01] the Bible actually says there's no [01:03] greater love than this that someone [01:04] would lay down their life for their [01:06] friend yeah amen and and that's the [01:08] ultimate sacrifice really I mean we see [01:10] young people now in Israel going out to [01:13] battle in order to protect the people to [01:15] protect the country and that's a huge [01:18] kind of love but even Even in our own [01:21] day-to-day life we we have these small [01:24] sacrifices we we make you know it's part [01:26] of life and especially I can think about [01:28] as as a parent or as a husband you know [01:31] I think it's so so important to [01:33] understand that sacrifice is always [01:36] something costly it's always something [01:38] that has purpose behind it yeah yeah [01:40] it's not just the fact that you give [01:42] it's how much you give and what you give [01:44] like imagine if somebody who had [01:46] unlimited finances gave $100 they didn't [01:49] really feel that would that be a [01:51] sacrifice to them or you know to be a [01:53] sacrifice really you have to feel the [01:55] cost yeah yeah and on the other hand if [01:57] someone has nothing basically no no [02:00] money you know and but he comes out of [02:03] his way to give his time to give his [02:05] heart and to H you know that could be [02:08] very much a much bigger sacrifice than [02:11] than that example yeah and in the Bible [02:13] we have so many different kinds of [02:14] sacrifices and offerings like we have [02:16] the sin offering the guilt offering the [02:18] burnt offering and all these different [02:19] ones and they all have different [02:22] purposes but it's all coming from the [02:24] Same Heart yeah I think sacrifice really [02:28] ultimately represent our desire to draw [02:31] close to the Lorden the Hebrew word for [02:33] sacrifice isan and the root of that word [02:36] is which means to draw close amen so [02:39] good I I love it because God is always [02:42] close you know this is It's who he is [02:45] but it's us who feel the distance many [02:48] times because of the situation of Our [02:51] Own Heart H so actually sacrifice giving [02:54] a sacrifice to God can be an instrument [02:57] of just drawing close physical action to [03:01] to draw close to that close to the yeah [03:03] know like when when you invest in [03:06] something it's you're investing your [03:08] time or your money your energy like [03:10] you're getting more attached to it [03:12] you're getting more connected to it and [03:14] it's yeah drawing you into this thing [03:17] that you're investing in yeah and I [03:20] think actually fasting which we we are [03:23] now in a season of it it's really a good [03:25] example of sacrifice because you you it [03:29] it costs you know you feel it you're [03:31] outside of your comfort you know but you [03:33] do it for a purpose you you do it in [03:35] order to draw close to God yeah and I [03:39] think it's uh important I know it's [03:40] important for me as I relate with the [03:42] Lord when we think about sacrifice it's [03:44] not something I'm doing to earn [03:46] redemption or to earn the Lord's favor [03:48] because that's already been given to [03:49] Meen in Yeshua but it's something that I [03:51] can do voluntarily to draw close to the [03:54] Lord and to give something because of [03:56] how much he gave me yeah and yeshua's [03:58] sacrifice is the alar sacrifice is the [04:00] final sacrifice for our Redemption you [04:03] for God so loved the world that he gave [04:06] his only begotten son and I I love it [04:10] because he so loved that he gave so [04:14] really the motivation behind the [04:17] sacrifice of Yeshua was love the [04:18] motivation of love amen yeah when we [04:21] talk about I guess motivation it makes [04:23] me go back and think about like the [04:25] first first sacrifice we see in the [04:27] Bible in Genesis of Cain and Abel [04:30] and we see both of them giving [04:32] sacrifices but but one of the sacrifices [04:35] accepted and one of them isn't it's an [04:37] interesting passage because the Lord [04:39] doesn't tell us exactly why one was [04:41] accepted and one wasn't maybe we can [04:44] understand it because it says that Abel [04:45] brought his best um but Cain brought [04:47] just some of his fruits and really maybe [04:50] wasn't putting his all into it in a way [04:51] that was acceptable to the Lord yeah [04:53] it's a good point I also think that you [04:56] know when it seems when able gives his [05:00] sacrifice to the Lord give his offering [05:02] to the Lord his eyes are on God but it [05:05] looks like when Cain is giving his [05:07] sacrifice his eyes are not even on God [05:09] his eyes are on his brother like he's [05:13] comparing yeah you know instead of [05:15] worshiping he's actually comparing [05:18] himself and then he gets angry and then [05:20] he gets angry and the reason he gets [05:22] angry is because it's not really the [05:25] sacrifice was not about pleasing God it [05:27] was actually about pleasing himself M so [05:30] that we like we see that the motivation [05:32] is so critical and that when we're [05:35] sacrificing it needs to be from a place [05:38] and a Heart of Love yeah yeah there's a [05:40] good story that has to do with [05:41] sacrificial love obviously about Yeshua [05:43] from from The Book of Mark it's about [05:45] two days before he's about to be [05:47] crucified and in this time period we we [05:50] sort of pick up the story when he's [05:51] sitting at his friend's house in bethamy [05:53] yeah which is like walking distance [05:57] right not how I walk short driving [06:00] distance maybe Bible time yeah Bible [06:03] time walking distance but it's it's the [06:06] nearest town to he which yeah yeah it's [06:08] pretty close and he's at the house of [06:11] Simon the leper which is not a very good [06:14] nickname but I imagine probably he was a [06:16] leper and Yeshua probably already healed [06:19] him and um they're sitting together um [06:23] and they're host he's Simon is hosting [06:24] them at his home yeah and then this [06:26] woman comes and she breaks open and [06:29] pours this jar of extremely expensive [06:31] perfume on his head which seemed kind of [06:34] strange yeah uh definitely but that [06:37] Aroma and that fragrance started to fill [06:39] the entire house with the smell of this [06:41] perfume and it says that that perfume [06:44] was like worth like a year over a year [06:47] of salary so we're talking about tens of [06:50] thousands of of dollars of worth of [06:52] perfume can IM imagine and like some of [06:55] the people in the house got pretty [06:57] pretty angry pretty uh offended and were [06:59] like [07:00] woman why why are what are you doing [07:02] woman woman but Yeshua comes to her [07:06] defense and defends her disciples and [07:08] says you just don't understand what [07:10] she's doing that this is a real [07:13] sacrifice of love from her heart and I [07:16] think our [07:18] sacrifice a true sacrifice is always a [07:20] personal thing yeah H before God and [07:24] sometimes people don't understand it why [07:27] why are you doing what you're doing you [07:28] know but it's fine because our sacrifice [07:31] is is for God it's not for people amen [07:34] and uh it moves the heart so the heart [07:36] of God so much if it's small in the eyes [07:40] of people if it's big in the eyes of [07:41] people it doesn't matter in the eyes of [07:43] people it matters in the eyes of God [07:45] Yeshua says about that woman like [07:47] everywhere that the gospel will be [07:49] preached there will be told what this [07:51] woman did what he did for Yeshua yeah he [07:53] did for you some people actually believe [07:56] that this woman was Miriam the sister of [07:58] Lazarus so if you can imagine if Yeshua [08:01] had raised your brother who you love [08:03] from the dead I mean what would you not [08:05] give what would be considered too big of [08:07] a sacrifice to show your gratefulness [08:09] for him doing such a [08:10] thing yeah and Yeshua actually he he [08:14] says another fascinating thing about [08:17] this woman he says she did this for my [08:21] burial you know and probably all the [08:23] disciples are like what you know yeah [08:26] understand it's crazy the context of the [08:28] time frame is so critical because this [08:31] is [08:32] just couple days before Passover which [08:36] means it's probably 24 hours before he's [08:39] going to be taken away and beaten and [08:42] flogged and spat on and [08:44] humiliated it it's crazy I've spent a [08:47] decent amount of time contemplating [08:49] those couple of days after he got to [08:51] Jerusalem before the crucifixion just [08:53] imagining how dark that moment how [08:56] difficult must have been with him [08:58] knowing what he was about to endure yeah [09:01] it was I believe it was one of the most [09:03] darkest moments but even in it there was [09:07] a a spot of light and I think that spot [09:09] of light was actually that perfume [09:12] because if it really is the time frame [09:14] in the last few hours of his life then [09:17] all throughout the day Yeshua could [09:20] still smell the perfume so he's being [09:22] beat up he smells the perfume he's being [09:25] mocked and and spot on he's he smelled [09:28] the perfume he with the cross on his [09:30] back he hangs on the cross eventually [09:34] with his last breath and he still smells [09:36] this most expensive perfume wow it's so [09:41] so powerful I [09:43] mean that smell and perfume was a [09:46] constant reminder in each of these all [09:49] of these moments that he's going through [09:51] the pain a reminder of the love of this [09:53] woman the passion and her heart that [09:56] sacrifice of one of one of the his [09:59] daughters and it's amazing you know how [10:02] a a smell can change your your mood kind [10:04] of it's amazing that fragrance that was [10:07] on the cross while he was being [10:09] crucified um reminded him of that [10:11] sacrifice of love I'm sure it [10:13] strengthened him as he was enduring that [10:15] wow thank you Yeshua thank you for this [10:18] sacrifice you know I think it's [10:21] important for us this picture is not for [10:23] nothing it's it's for we need to [10:25] constantly put before our eyes the price [10:28] that Yeshua paid for us because [10:31] sometimes you know we live our life [10:33] trying to avoid as much as possible [10:35] paying the cost pay paying the prize for [10:38] our faith for our you know and um I [10:41] think the moment we look what he paid [10:44] what he did for us then actually we get [10:47] to the point when we get to the point [10:49] that we do need to pay for our walking [10:52] after him then we realize that it's a [10:55] opportunity to go in love it's [10:57] opportunity that to make this sacrifice [11:00] of love and to draw closer to him and to [11:02] unite with him more yeah wow amen let's [11:08] pray Our Father who is in heaven Lord we [11:11] thank you that you gave us so much Lord [11:14] help us to live in the knowledge that [11:17] everything that we have is from you and [11:18] for you amen Lord there's nothing that [11:20] we have received that you didn't give us [11:24] and that our lives are are really can be [11:26] seen through the prism of stewardship [11:28] God that you've put here for a short [11:30] period of time you've given us a limited [11:31] amount of time treasure talents and [11:34] you're looking Lord to see what will we [11:36] do with what you've given us and Lord [11:38] what is too big of a sacrifice to give [11:40] to you Lord you've given us um every uh [11:45] dollar or shekele that we have you've [11:46] given it Lord every um joyous experience [11:50] you've given it Lord our family you've [11:51] given our homes you've given uh even the [11:54] trials that we've gone through you've [11:55] given them Lord and um it's all because [11:58] of you and it's all for you Lord so I [12:00] pray that you would help us in our [12:02] hearts not to uh live under the as or [12:08] the um delusion the delusion of [12:11] ownership Lord um but we would be [12:13] willing to say everything I have is for [12:16] you Lord my All Is For You Lord I'm [12:18] bringing everything to the altar my [12:20] thoughts my heart posture you would help [12:22] us not only to do the right things but [12:24] to do the right things for the right [12:25] reasons with the right heart motivations [12:27] Lord um because we want want to be unto [12:29] you a Living Sacrifice [12:31] Yeshua you came you endured these dark [12:35] moments on the cross Lord you did all [12:38] these things to draw us into [12:39] relationship with you and to restore uh [12:42] a way for us to have fellowship with you [12:44] again Yeshua and so we give it all back [12:47] to you Lord would you make us living [12:50] sacrifices holy and acceptable unto you [12:53] now today and for the rest of our lives [12:55] in yeshua's name amen amen amen for
